Sorry for asking out of nowhere like this, and you can definitely say no, but I happened to see your answers on Grand Emissary Magolor's survey. Would you be willing to trade me a few oranges for something? I actually offered to cook for him recently, but he asked for a fruity dessert, and I was totally at a loss!
Kyoko really had meant it when she told Kaito not to rush, but she didn't waste much time in getting outside to wait for him. It wasn't like she had anything to do besides fret about this decision anyway, right? Jeez. Gosh. She wanted to support him, sure, but she should have just invented something for him to deliver!
Ah... maybe staying at home so much lately had gotten to her? That made sense. A perfectly good explanation for why she'd thoughtlessly chosen the option involving contact. Case closed, now she was free to just fret about paying him back for it later.
[Be it delivered by one of the robots, tucked carefully into Kai's delivery load, or left by one of the offworlders recruited in Havenwell's current Santa-shenanigans, Kai will receive a letter! It's written nice and legibly, though in a hand that's probably less than practiced with the art of letter writing, and in a few spots, there's some ink buildup where a pen may have sat against the paper while words were mulled over. It reads:]
Kai
Maybe it has something to do with sitting down and thinking things over for a while, but some thoughts can be a little easier to write down rather than trying to find all these words when we're talking face-to-face. It's made me want to write something down for you.
I'm so, so glad that the the both of us came from different worlds, and that we got to meet here. When I first arrived here, I was absolutely sure that I'd never be able to rely on anyone else, and I definitely didn't think that I'd ever end up caring so deeply about someone the way I do for you. The first time I fell for someone, it nearly destroyed me, and I was honestly terrified when I realized that it was happening again. But, with you, there was never any reason for me to worry. I don't think I've ever felt so comfortable and at peace with anyone, even before I told you how I feel, even before I figured out what I was feeling for you was. I'm glad I know now.
I love you, and having you by my side makes me want to look forward to the future. Thank you for always being there for me, and for always being endlessly gentle with my heart.
[ Whether Shinji leaves the house first this morning or Kaito does, they’ll find two letters left neatly on their doorstep, weighed down against chilly breezes by a small container of actual strawberries. Did they know she had those yet? How early was she sneaking around outside their house to make this delivery? Mysteries.
Both letters are addressed in a flowery but very neat script, the same that fills up the notes inside. ]
Good morning, Kaito!
This is a little sudden, but did I ever tell you about the Happy Grateful Party? I’m pretty sure I didn’t. You don’t have to answer, I’ll go ahead and explain it now.
Not too many months before I ended up in Havenwell, there was a certain friend I wanted to cheer up about various things, but the situation was a little delicate--I thought a sort of indirect approach would be the best, you know? So I asked her to help me plan a party as a big “thank you very much!!” to all of the important people in our hearts, who’d kindly looked after us. It ended up getting kinda out of control, but she got to find some happiness on that day, and we both got to show everyone our gratitude. That was the Happy Grateful Party from the first paragraph!
I’ve been thinking about it off and on lately, because that party was held on December 24. There’s no December here, of course, but it is the 24th day of the last month of the year, so that’s pretty close, right?
Anyway, sorry this letter isn’t a party, but I can’t let it go. You were the first person to make me feel like I had something I could really be grateful for here. You’ve looked after me since the very beginning, even when I was a pain. And you know, despite everything, it seems like I can even be happy sometimes, if there’s someone like you beside me.
So, I know it’s not really your style, but please bear with me and imagine some confetti and flowers and a chocolate river surrounding you when I say thank you, thank you, thank you!
He'd been caught red-handed in the cookie jar of excuses, but who could blame him when they were laid out so conveniently for him and the results were so satisfying? Those tremulous gasps were echoing hot in Kai's ears, as delightful as any of his surprised squeaks. They just also made his stomach flip bit.
"Usually gotta be in the mood," Kai murmured back as he lifted his head, a swipe of pink licking the traces of chocolate from his lips. Oh, look at how rosey Shinji had already gotten. Kai's gaze lingered heavy from spot to spot, making his admiration more obvious than usual. "But I'm not gonna say no if they're right in front of me," he went on with a sneaky grin.
There wasn't actually any chocolate on Shinji's other ear, but that color was too bold to pass up as Kai moved another smooch there.
sorry, I thhink I really messed up with Kyoko She's really upset and I only made it worse somehow but she doesn't want to talk to me Can you please just make sure she's ok? I cant be the one comforting her right now
[Then, a few moments after that message is sent, he follows up with,]
you don't have to try and make things right between us I just want her to make it back safe.
What the heck! Startled, Kai's hand shot up a bit into the No Touching Zone as he looked over at her. "Pff, I meant nice for you." If it was nice for her then she wouldn't be putting up with anything!
... but it was really hard not to want to just... put his hand back. So he did. While keeping an eye on her combustion, Kai gingerly let his palm settle back over that soft threshold. Ah, it really was soft.
